ANNUAL SEASON OF GIVING PROGRAM
Each year for Christmas, Community Services hosts a toy/gift selection program. The mission of the Town of North Haven’s Community Services’ Annual Season of Giving Program is to ensure that North Haven families who are experiencing financial hardship have gifts to provide their children (18 and under) during the holiday season. Each qualifying family will receive a private appointment, with a 30-minute time limit. During that time, a Community Services staff member will accompany the family in the gift distribution room while they make their selections.
Toy selection appointments are available for one week in December, usually 1-2 full weeks before Christmas. Signups begin on the first Monday following Thanksgiving each year.
This program is intended for North Haven families experiencing financial hardship, with children ages 18 and under. This program is intended for parents, guardians and/or direct caregivers only; grandparents are allowed only if they are custodial parent (they will be asked to show proof of guardianship).
This year, parent(s)/guardian(s) must present the following:
1.) Driver’s license (proving residency)
2.) Birth certificates for each child in the household
3.) Proof of hardship. Acceptable forms of proof of hardship include but are not limited to: Social Security benefit letter, State of CT Connect card, Husky card, SNAP benefit letter, Care 4 Kids letter.
The Department welcomes donations of new, unwrapped toys, however there is a shortage for “tween and teen friendly” items. We would happily provide some suggested gift ideas. Monetary donations and gift cards are also greatly accepted. Any donation can be dropped off to the Department of Community Services office, at the Town Hall Annex Building, 5 Linsley St., from Monday through Friday, between 8:30am and 4:30pm.
If you would like to sign up, receive further information or have any questions regarding these programs, please contact Carla Picard, Monday through Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm at 203-239-5321 x504.
