The Building Office is responsible for assuring the safety of North Haven residents through the enforcement of all applicable building codes for new or existing structures within the Town. This process typically includes the review of plans and and the issuance of a building permit prior to the start of construction followed by inspection work in progress and ending in a Certificate of Occupancy when all work has been completed in compliance with the regulations.
The Building Code currently adopted by the Town of North Haven is the 2013 Amendment to the 2005 Connecticut State Building Code. This amendment adopts the 2009 International Residential code and the 2011 National Electrical Code with the Connecticut specific changes.
Permitting software implemented last year has expedited the issuance of permits. Most permits are issued within three days of approval. Building permit fees for the next fiscal year expect to remain unchanged.
Effective Monday, April 9, 2012 the Building Office now offers the capability of submitting applications for building permits online using the Viewpermit On-line Permit Center. The on-line permit center allows homeowners and licensed contractors to apply for and receive building permits over the internet. You can also track the status of your permit application and request inspections.
