VOTER REGISTRATION


To register to vote in North Haven you must meet the following requirements: You must be a 1.) U.S. Citizen, a bona fide resident of North Haven, and be at least 17 years old (you must turn 18 before November Election Day).

Any resident that meets the above requirements may register to vote any weekday in person at either the ROV Office or with the Town Clerk Office – both offices are located in Town Hall. In addition, you may register to vote ONLINE through a Secretary of the State website: voterregistration.ct.gov. If you choose to register online – please use your 9 digit CT license number as your ID number. The online site uses DMV information only to verify your identification. Voter registration cards can also be downloaded from the ROV page on the town website (see menu). Once completed, these forms may be mailed or delivered in person to the ROV Office or dropped off at Town Hall reception desk.

ELECTION DAY REGISTRATION

Effective July 1, 2013, CT Public Act 12-56 allows eligible people* to register to vote and cast a ballot on Election Day. Election Day Registration applies only to November /General Election days.

*If you are 18 years of age, a bona fide resident of the Town of North Haven, and a U.S. citizen AND you have NOT registered to vote during any of the posted registration sessions – you may register and cast a ballot on Election Day. You do not go a voting district or polling place – you must come, with ID, to the Registrars of Voters Office in Memorial Town Hall – elevator accessible.

VOTER IDENTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

First time voters – anyone who: a.) registered to vote by mail after January 3, 2003 and are b.) Voting for the first time in a Primary or Election which has Federal candidates on the ballot and c.) have an asterisk next to their name on the official voter list MUST present a copy of a current and valid photo identification that shows your name and address; OR a copy of a current utility bill, bank statement, government check, paycheck or other government document that shows your name and address OR you may cast a provisional ballot. First time voters are required to present ID and may not use the Secretary of the State’s affidavit in lieu of acceptable ID.

All other voters – You must still present ID, but you may show CT license, Social Security Card, or any pre-printed form of ID that shows: Name and Address; OR Name and Signature OR Name and Photograph – OR you may sign an affidavit at the poll, Form ED-681 provided the Secretary of the State which states that the elector who names appears on the official check list is the same person who is signing the ED-681 affidavit.

Grand List voters – Referenda only Those voters, who are NOT registered but meet the following requirements: you own property in North Haven with an assessed value of at least $1000.00 on the latest Grand List, excluding any exemption; you are at least 18 years of age, and a U.S. citizen. In addition, you must own the property as an individual, not as a partnership or corporation. Out of town residents who meet the above requirements may vote in Town referenda.

CURBSIDE VOTING:

If an elector is present at a polling place but is unable to gain access due to a temporary physical incapacity, the elector (a North Haven registered voter) may request that a ballot be brought outside of the polling place - to their car - which would be parked in a specific designated spot. No proof of any such incapacity need be shown. Call the Registrar’s Office (203)239-5321 extension 640 on Election Day if you would like to request curbside voting. The Registrars will ask for your name, address and time you will arrive at polling place.

 

Absentee Ballots:  The Town Clerk is responsible for Absentee Ballots.  Absentee ballot applications are available prior to any election event from the Town Clerk (203.239.5321, ext. 630) You may download an absentee ballot application from the Secretary of the State’s website www.sots.ct.gov or the Town Clerk’s webpage.  For the latest information on absentee ballots, contact the Town Clerk’s office.

Absentee ballots for the May 18, 2021 Town Budget Referendum will be available beginning Thursday, April 29, 2021.
